During breast augmentation surgery, Dr. Bayati will place the breast implants either above the chest muscles and directly behind the breast tissue (subglandular) or behind the chest muscles (submuscular). The best option for you will be determined at your initial consultation, and it will depend on your unique needs and goals. The subglandular approach can lead to a rounder breast appearance and may be a good option for patients with higher amounts of breast tissue; however, the contours of the implants may be more noticeable on some patients when this technique is utilized. The submuscular (under the chest muscle) approach can be beneficial for patients with very thin breast skin. They can also result in a very natural-looking slope to the breasts, and the contours of the implants are not typically detectable. Another notable advantage of submuscular implants is that they can make it easier for doctors to perform mammograms and breast examinations. Some possible disadvantages of the submuscular approach: there will likely be a longer recovery process; and there is a slight risk of implant displacement while doing intensive chest exercises.
