What Is CoolSculpting®?
FDA-approved CoolSculpting® treatment utilizes an innovative technology called Cryolipolysis™ to help remove excess fat cells that have collected in particular areas of the body. The non-surgical treatment involves the use of controlled cooling methods to ultimately break down the excess fat cells in precisely targeted regions. As the fat cells are shrunken and destroyed, they are then gradually filtered out of the body through natural processes. This gradual progression of fat reduction can result in a new, slimmer figure after a few short months.
What Are the Benefits of CoolSculpting®?
CoolSculpting® offers numerous benefits for individuals who have pockets of excess fat in isolated areas of the body, but may not require liposuction to address their concerns. Advantages of CoolSculpting® include:
- Reduction of stubborn fat deposits in the abdomen, flanks (love handles), and other areas
- No needles, incisions, or anesthesia is necessary
- Many patients can relax and read a magazine or a book during the treatment
- No recovery time is typically necessary
How Does CoolSculpting® Work?
During CoolSculpting®, the Cryolipolysis™ process will be utilized to reduce excess fat in specific areas and enhance body contours. A special device will be placed on the skin that produces a mild, vacuum-like pressure, causing fat cells in the target areas to be cooled and broken down. The process is designed to shrink and ultimately destroy the excess fat cells, which will then be naturally filtered out of the body over the next few months. The treatment should lead to noticeable fat reduction in the targeted areas during this time.
CoolSculpting® vs. Liposuction
CoolSculpting® can be used as an alternative to liposuction in many cases; however, it does not replace liposuction as a viable option for fat reduction. Some patients may have larger areas of excess fat deposits or need treatment in areas of the body for which CoolSculpting® is not an ideal option to achieve the best results. However, for patients who are candidates for CoolSculpting®, this treatment can be very beneficial, especially for those who are looking for options that do not require surgical intervention and excessive recovery times.
What Is the CoolSculpting® Procedure Like?
With CoolSculpting®, there are no surgical incisions required. Tissue surrounding the immediate treatment area should remain unharmed during the CoolSculpting® procedure. Dr. Bayati’s patients are typically able to relax during treatment – many patients choose to read a book or take a nap during this time. The CoolSculpting® procedure has been described as a cold, tingly feeling, but the sensation should disappear shortly after treatment has been completed. No recovery time is needed for most patients, so they are usually able to return to their daily activities immediately following the CoolSculpting® procedure. The entire treatment usually takes about one to two hours to complete, depending on the size and number of the areas being treated. Final results are typically achieved after two to four months.
Is CoolSculpting® Safe?
Many of the risks involved with surgical cosmetic enhancement procedures are not associated with CoolSculpting® since the treatment is non-invasive; however, there are still risks involved. Individuals with skin that is very sensitive to cold temperatures are typically advised not to undergo CoolSculpting® procedures. In addition, those who have a history of cold-related conditions, such as paroxysmal cold hemoglobulinuria, cryoblobulinemia, or cold agglutinin disease, are not usually ideal candidates for this treatment since the low temperatures utilized during CoolSculpting® may cause complications. Dr. Bayati and her team take every precaution to minimize the risks of CoolSculpting® and will go over all aspects of the procedure during your initial evaluation and consultation.
Does CoolSculpting® Hurt?
Dr. Bayati makes every effort to make CoolSculpting® treatment as comfortable as possible. You may experience a cold, tingling sensation when the device makes contact with the skin; however, this is usually mild and quickly subsides.
What Are the Side Effects of CoolSculpting®?
In addition to a tingling and/or tugging sensation during the CoolSculpting® procedure, patients may have a temporary feeling of numbness in the targeted areas following treatment. Some level of bruising, redness, swelling, and aching may also occur after CoolSculpting®; however, these effects are common and should dissipate in the ensuing days. Most individuals are able to resume their normal daily activities right after treatment.
How Long Does CoolSculpting® Last?
By maintaining a healthy diet and proper exercise regimen, many patients can enjoy the results of CoolSculpting® for many, many years.
How Much Does CoolSculpting® Cost?
The total cost of CoolSculpting® varies widely from patient to patient based on the specific areas being treated, the number of areas targeted, and other factors. On average, the price of CoolSculpting® can be in the $2,000 to $4,000 range; however, since the procedure is customized for each individual, the cost could ultimately fall below that range.
