What Is PRP?
PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) is a blood component that contains natural growth factors which help the skin repair itself and stimulate soft-tissue rejuvenation. Once separated from the red blood cells, your own platelet-rich plasma and its remarkable healing powers can be utilized for cosmetic enhancement, ultimately encouraging new growth of collagen and elastin to create smoother, more youthful-looking skin.
Platelet-Rich Plasma therapy has been used to treat musculoskeletal injuries for many years. It has since been discovered that the healing abilities of PRP could also be harnessed for aesthetic facial rejuvenation. While PRP therapy can be effective on its own, the treatment can also be combined with microneedling or dermal fillers for more significant enhancement. Microneedling with PRP can also be utilized as a minimally-invasive hair restoration procedure.
What Are the Benefits of PRP?
The face is one of the first areas of the body to show signs of age. As we grow older, our skin and facial tissues can become damaged and compromised. This damage not only creates fine lines and wrinkles, but also can cause skin laxity around the eyes, mouth, and cheeks due to a loss of facial volume. Though more aggressive procedures for facial rejuvenation, such as a facelift or brow lift, are often quite effective in reviving a more youthful aesthetic, not all of our patients require surgery to obtain their desired results. For these individuals, Platelet-Rich Plasma therapy may be an ideal option.
Using your body’s own blood to reinvigorate the cells of your facial tissues, the PRP treatments can provide benefits such as:
- Fine line and wrinkle reduction
- Stimulating stem cells
- Increased new collagen production
- New blood vessel formation
- Lost tissue replacement
By utilizing the healing capabilities of your own blood, all of these benefits can work to slow – and even reverse – the effects of the natural aging process. PRP therapy can help your skin remain refreshed, revitalized, and healthy.
Dr. Bayati will meet with you for an initial consultation to evaluate your skin and talk with you about your goals. If PRP therapy is a good option, she will create a customized treatment plan designed to meet your needs.
What Does the PRP Procedure Involve?
The PRP procedure begins with the collection of a very small volume of your blood. A special device will then be used to separate the red blood cells from the platelet-rich plasma. The PRP is then delicately injected into the areas targeted for treatment.
When performed on its own, the entire PRP treatment can often be completed in about 30 minutes or less. Most patients require no downtime following the procedure and typically resume normal daily routines immediately.
PRP Facial (Microneedling with PRP)
One of the more common techniques utilized in PRP therapy involves a combination of both platelet-rich plasma and microneedling treatment. Microneedling is a minimally-invasive procedure that creates very small perforations in the surface layers of skin to stimulate collagen and elastin. By adding platelet-rich plasma to this treatment, both techniques work together to help replenish healthy skin cells and provide even more improved results. The PRP Facial (microneedling with PRP) does not require general anesthesia, and most patients do not need a recovery period following treatment. Some redness and swelling can be expected in the target areas, but these effects should fade within a few days.
In addition to reducing signs of wrinkles and fine lines, microneedling with PRP can also address stretch marks and certain types of scars to create a more even-toned look.
PRP Facelift (PRP with Facial Fillers)
Another variation of PRP treatment – the PRP Facelift – adds advanced injectable dermal fillers to the procedure. The platelet-rich plasma and a facial filler such as Restylane® or JUVÉDERM® are injected into the same targeted areas of skin to enhance volume and stimulate collagen. This procedure can be a good option to address loss of skin firmness, loss of volume, wrinkles, and other common signs of aging. Some degree of temporary swelling and soreness can be expected in the injection sites; however, most patients are able to resume normal daily activities immediately after treatment and do not require recovery time.
How Much Does PRP Therapy Cost?
The total cost of PRP therapy ultimately depends on each patient’s customized treatment plan; therefore, the price varies among individuals. Factors that are taken into account include the type and extent of the concerns being treated, the number of injections necessary, and whether PRP is performed by itself or in combination with microneedling, facial fillers, or other treatments. Once you and Dr. Bayati have decided that PRP therapy is the best option for your needs and the treatment program is developed, a member of our team will calculate a total price estimate and answer any questions you may have. We will be happy to talk with you about the variety of convenient payment methods we accept at our practice, or to provide you with information about financing your treatment. We work with two of the most popular healthcare lending agencies in the nation. These companies offer a comprehensive range of plans that can help eligible applicants pay for their procedure over time.
