With TouchMD, Dr. Semira Bayati says patients have an interactive new tool to learn about surgical procedures, view before-and-after images, and become more familiar with what they can expect.
Newport Beach, CA – Since the advent of the Apple® iPhone®, touch-screen technology has been revolutionizing the way we communicate, and even how we learn. The technology is even making its way into patient exam rooms, and Dr. Semira Bayati, a plastic surgeon in Orange County, is utilizing it to optimize her patients’ experiences in a number of ways. With TouchMD, Dr. Bayati says doctor/patient communication is greatly enhanced, individuals have even more educational tools at their disposal, and any downtime spent in the exam room is optimized to the fullest extent.
TouchMD is a computer system designed to provide patients with an interactive access point to a range of information. Dr. Bayati believes thorough patient education is a key aspect of the plastic surgery treatment process, and says the technology gives patients an easy-to-use tool to learn about what they can expect from the overall experience. On the TouchMD screen, patients can choose from a variety of virtual doors, which lead to areas such as a practice introduction and overview, a before-and-after photo gallery for specific plastic surgery procedures, an anatomical image library, videos describing treatment processes, pre-operative and post-operative information, and other topics. The TouchMD system also offers a Patient Portal, allowing patients to access much of the information they went over earlier for review while they are at home.
Dr. Bayati says a person-to-person consultation is still, and always will be, the best way to communicate with patients about their specific needs and goals; however, she notes, TouchMD enhances that experience by giving them even more ways to learn about surgical procedures such as breast augmentation, Mommy Makeover, and other options, as well as by helping the doctor provide them with a thorough understanding and familiarity with the treatment process, risks and benefits, and the potential results. Dr. Bayati says TouchMD can ultimately strengthen the doctor/patient relationship and help patients feel more confident in their decisions.
