Dr. Semira Bayati discusses the right time for a mommy makeover, what to expect from recovery, and the benefits of this popular procedure.
Newport Beach, CA – One procedure that patients frequently ask about at the practice of Dr. Semira Bayati, a plastic surgeon in Newport Beach, is the mommy makeover. With the ability to renew the body’s appearance and to counter many of the changes that take place over the course of motherhood, Dr. Bayati says the mommy makeover has become very popular among women who wish to regain their pre-pregnancy figure. “A mommy makeover can be a great way to address some of the physical changes caused by pregnancy and raising children. It can tighten loose or torn abdominal muscles, replace lost breast volume, eliminate stubborn isolated pockets of fat, and rejuvenate your appearance with beautiful results.”
A mommy makeover is a customized procedure that combines a number of cosmetic enhancement options. Dr. Bayati notes that the treatment can effectively resolve many aesthetic concerns that have proven resistant to even the most rigorous diet, exercise, and skin care routines. She says the procedure can reduce excess skin in the abdominal area for a firmer, flatter appearance; eliminate sagging breast skin and/or enhance volume and shape in the breasts; reduce fat deposits virtually anywhere on the body; and rejuvenate the skin for a more youthful and refreshed look.
“New mothers are eager to get their bodies back into shape and often ask me: ‘When is the ideal time for a mommy makeover?’” says Dr. Bayati. While she reveals that the answer will vary from case to case, women should wait at least a year after the birth of their last child before undergoing a mommy makeover procedure. She notes that good candidates for a mommy makeover are typically women who have stopped breast-feeding, do not plan on having additional children, and are maintaining a stable body weight. In addition, Dr. Bayati says that mothers who still have small children may want to schedule their mommy makeover for a time when they can have some extra help with day-to-day activities and childcare.
As with most surgeries, Dr. Bayati says it takes some time – often several weeks – to fully recover from a mommy makeover; however, the length of recovery will depend on a number of factors for each individual. These include the types of treatments involved in the customized mommy makeover and whether the procedure is performed in one operation or staged over a series of appointments. Dr. Bayati says, once patients come in for the initial consultation and the treatment options have been determined, she is able to give them a more concrete idea of what to expect during recovery.
Ultimately, Dr. Bayati explains, mommy makeover procedures can help hard-working mothers treat themselves to a renewed appearance and a boost to their self-esteem, providing them with a more contoured and youthful figure that goes right along with the joys that motherhood naturally brings.
